When Is The Best Time To Come In For A 3D/4D/5D & HD Live Ultrasound?

To achieve the highest quality results for 3D ultrasound, 4D ultrasound, and HD live imaging, the optimal time is generally between 26 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, the baby has developed chubby cheeks and distinct facial features, while still having enough amniotic fluid to provide clear, detailed images and movements like stretching or smiling.

How Should I Prepare For My Elective Ultrasound ?

Image quality for 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound is highly dependent on maternal hydration. Increasing water intake for several days prior to your appointment is strongly advised to maintain optimal amniotic fluid levels, ensuring the best results with HD live imaging.

To prepare for an elective 3D or 4D ultrasound, hydrate for 3-7 days prior to your session. To ensure an optimal imaging session, we recommend consuming a light meal or snack approximately 30 to 45 minutes before your appointment.

What Is The Difference Between An Elective Ultrasound And A Medical Ultrasound Done By My Doctor?

The primary difference between these scans is their intended purpose: medical ultrasounds, such as 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound, are diagnostic examinations used to monitor health. In contrast, elective sessions, which may utilize HD live imaging, are recreational experiences designed for family bonding and keepsakes.

Are Elective Ultrasound Safe?

Elective ultrasounds, including 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound options, are considered safe for both mother and baby. They utilize the same non-invasive, radiation-free sound wave technology that has been used in medical diagnostics for over 60 years, now enhanced with HD live imaging capabilities.

What Is The Difference Between A 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D & HD Live Ultrasound?

2D Ultrasound (Traditional): The medical standard. Black-and-white. Best for checking internal organs, heartbeat, and measurements.

3D Ultrasound (Still Depth): Adds the third dimension of depth. This type of 3D ultrasound offers a three-dimensional "sculpture" typically shown in golden tones, allowing you to see surface features like the shape of the nose, lips, and cheeks.

4D Ultrasound (Live Motion): Adds the "fourth dimension" of time. This 4D ultrasound provides a live-stream video of your baby, enabling you to watch real-time movements such as yawning, smiling, blinking, or thumb-sucking.

5D & HD Live Ultrasound (Ultra-Realism): These terms are often used interchangeably to describe advanced rendering software that offers HD live imaging. With high-definition views, you can expect realistic skin tones and shadows.

What Time Should I Arrive For My Elective Ultrasound?

To ensure your appointment for a 3D ultrasound or a 4D ultrasound runs smoothly and you have plenty of time for your session, you should typically arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Paperwork will likely need a few minutes to check in, sign consent forms, and verify your information, especially if you're looking forward to experiencing HD live imaging.

Are You Able To Tell The Sex or Gender Of The Baby?

Yes, we are typically able to determine the biological sex of the baby during an elective ultrasound, including 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound options, starting as early as 16 weeks of pregnancy, where accuracy reaches nearly 100% because the anatomy is fully developed and clearly visible with HD live imaging. We generally do not recommend ultrasound for gender determination before 16 weeks, as the genitalia are still developing and look very similar.

Can I Bring My Family & Friends?

Yes, we absolutely encourage you to bring family and friends to share in this experience. Unlike medical diagnostic ultrasounds, which often limit guests to minimize distractions for the sonographer, our elective sessions featuring 3D ultrasound, 4D ultrasound, and HD live imaging are designed as a celebratory bonding event for your entire support system. Children of all ages are welcome. We recommend having at least one other adult present to supervise young children so you can focus entirely on the screen.

Do I Need An Appointment?

Yes, at this time, appointments are required for all elective ultrasounds, including 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound options, as well as those utilizing HD live imaging.

How Long Does The Ultrasound Take?

The total duration of your appointment can vary based on the specific package you choose and the baby’s cooperation. Typically, these sessions for 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound can range from approximately 15–20 minutes or 25–30 minutes depending on your package type. Total Appointment Time: We recommend allowing 45 to 60 minutes for your entire visit. This includes time for check-in, the ultrasound session itself, which may feature HD live imaging, and the final processing of your prints, USB drives, or digital downloads.

Does The Location Of My Placenta Impact The Quality Of My Images?

Many clients inquire whether an anterior placenta (positioned on the front wall of the uterus) will impact the quality of their 3D ultrasound or 4D ultrasound. Since a significant portion of our clients have this placental placement, we are highly experienced in utilizing specialized techniques—such as HD live imaging from lateral angles—to capture clear views of the baby.

Are These Ultrasound's Covered By Insurance?

No, elective ultrasounds such as 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound are not covered by insurance. Because these sessions, which may include HD live imaging, are performed for bonding and keepsake purposes rather than medical necessity, insurance providers categorize them as recreational services.
